Let me share my thoughts and explain why wedding albums matter for you - our clients as consumers of photography and us - professional photographers.
There is no doubt that we live in a digital era, dominated by social media - Facebook, Instagram and instant gratification. But digital and print are not enemies. The print versus digital offer brings controversy to the industry and confuse our clients. Professional wedding photographers are divided into two camps.
On the budget side of the spectrum there are "shoot and burn" photographers. The final product of their work are digital files, usually copied to CD, DVD or a pendrive. It's quick, so if you care about time more than the image quality, it may be an option for you.
All-inclusive wedding photographers like WeddingPixels will bring your images to life using skills and time to edit and print your photographs. We care about our customer experience. The final products are your custom designed wedding albums, fine art prints and gift prints for your guest, to say thank you. You will also receive a digital package from us, including access to a private gallery protected with a password and a custom designed mobile album.
While every print costs, so usually you do not print poor photos, it seams cheap to make mistakes in digital photography. You just delete a bad image, right? What if overshooting became a habit? The side effects of "spray and pray" approach to photography is that photographer has to reject many bad images and among them some unique moments which are lost forever. And as a client, let's be frank, would you really have time to go through thousands of images more than once - just after the wedding?
The prints make a distinction between an average photographer and a great one or between hobbyist and professional. Printing as a process allows photographers to learn and grow as artists. As a medium, prints are one of the most pleasant ways to enjoy photography, much more personal and meaningful than on a laptop.
While loose prints attract fingerprints and are susceptible to damage, therefore they look best in the frame, wedding albums are the best way to show your photographs whenever someone pays you a visit, due to their intimate feel and carefully crafted narrative. They are very elegant and individually designed to tell your story in a unique way. They are also durable - so you can show them again and again. Check out our video preview.
